About our logo…
People often wonder about our logo. Some say, “Why do you have the Great Wall of China as your logo?” Actually, it is a mountain top castle in Italy.
Officially, the castle is the Republic of San Marino, in the Apennines near the Adriatic Sea, in North central Italy. It is the world's smallest republic and Europe's oldest existing state.
According to tradition, Marino, a Christian stonecutter from Dalmatia, took refuge on Mt. Titano (2,300 ft) in the year 301. By the mid-5th century, a community (and the castle) was formed. Because of its relatively inaccessible location it has succeeded in maintaining its independence. In 1849, San Marino gave refuge to Garibaldi, the Italian patriot and soldier. Volunteers from San Marino served with the Italians in World Wars I and II; Allied aircraft bombed the republic in 1944.
Apart from the Vatican City it is the only one that is completely surrounded by one other country. Various treaties of friendship have been signed with Italy.
The castle is significant to us because both my father and his father before him were actually born in San Marino. When we designed our logo we wanted something that spoke of family heritage, success through hard work, and an Old World respect for those with whom you do business.
